Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering design team in our Chatsworth, CA location. This position requires mechanical design skills that will be applied in designing and solving issues in the development and integration of engine system components for large liquid rocket engines. Working with and alongside other senior staff and subject matter experts, the candidate will support and produce the innovative designs and design changes necessary to be used in these high pressure, extreme environment applications. This candidate will be required to work through all types of technical mechanical design tasks with minimal communication from other senior staff.The selected candidate will effectively performing mechanical design engineering assignments requiring application of advanced principles, theories and concepts to develop propulsion hardware for spacecraft and missile programs. 50 : Performs design tasks that create mechanical design components and their higher level systems for high pressure and extreme environment applications. Produces and reviews other engineers engineering models and drawings and perform complex tolerance studies. Evaluates technical input from hardware suppliers and works with a cross functional team on producibility improvements and cost savings. Participates, and in many situations be required to lead trade studies, preliminary design and production support design modifications using 3D CAD modeling software tools. 20 : Performs or coordinates thermal and structural analysis for predicting component and system level performance in the design of the products. Interacts with manufacturing to assure hardware is producible. 20 : Prepares and releases engineering drawings with appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards. Actively participates in team meetings to assure design content for new or modified engineering designs. Creates and reviews CAD files for team approval and monitors design release. 10 : Prepares presentations and present technical information for internal and external customers. Responsible for preparing and reviewing others engineers engineering reports to support tolerance studies, engineering analyses, or failure investigations, including technical close:out reports.Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or an appropriate discipline and nine (9) years of directly related experience in the design of high pressure and extreme temperature hardware or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree or coursework toward an advanced degree is a plus. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. US Citizenship only required. Dual Citizenship does not meet job qualifications. Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) petency in the use of CREO Pro:Engineer CAD geometry:based modeling tools is expected.Experience in the design and development of mechanical systems and working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 is desired.Strong mechanical engineering background with knowledge and understanding of fluid flow principles.Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, brazing, machining, heat treating) is required.General component and system level knowledge of rocket propulsion hardware is desirable.
