Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer Specialist to join our engineering design team in our Chatsworth, CA location. This position requires mechanical design skills that will be applied in designing and solving issues in the development of valves, injectors, preburner and gas generators, chambers or nozzles for large liquid rocket engines. Working with other senior staff and subject matter experts, this position will support and produce component valves, injectors, preburner and gas generators, chambers or nozzles design and integration of components and systems used in high pressure, extreme environment applications. This individual will be required to work through all types of technical valves, injectors, preburner and gas generators, chambers, or nozzles design tasks with minimal communication from other senior staff. This position may be filled at this level posted or one level higher.The selected candidate will effectively perform mechanical design engineering assignments requiring application of advanced principles, theories and concepts to develop propulsion hardware for spacecraft and missile programs. 50 : Performs design tasks that create valves, injectors, preburner and gas generators, chambers or nozzles and their higher level systems for high pressure and extreme environment applications. Produces and reviews other engineers engineering models and drawings and perform complex tolerance studies. Evaluates technical input from hardware suppliers and work with a cross functional team on producibility improvements and cost savings. Participates in, and in many situations be required to lead, trade studies, preliminary design and production support using 3D CAD models. 20 : Performs or coordinates thermal and structural analysis for predicting component and system level performance in the design of the products. Interacts with manufacturing to assure hardware is producible. 20 : Prepares and releases engineering drawings with appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD and T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards. Actively participates in team meetings to assure design content for new or modified engineering designs. Creates and reviews CAD files for team approval and monitors design release. 10 : Prepares presentations and presents technical information to internal and external customers. Responsible for preparing and reviewing others engineers engineering reports to support tolerance studies, engineering analyses, or failure investigations, including technical close:out reports.Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or an appropriate discipline and 9 years of directly related experience in design of high pressure and extreme temperature valves, injectors, preburner and gas generators, chambers, or nozzles or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong mechanical engineering background with knowledge and understanding of fluid flow principles, as well as an understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, brazing, machining, heat treating) are required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) are also needed. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (US Citizenship required). Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. Preferred Qualifications:Advanced degree or coursework toward an advanced petency in the use of CREO Pro:Engineer CAD geometry:based modeling.Experience in the
