A number of local house and condo fires recently have started because of clogged dryer vents. There are over 16,000 dryer lint related fires in the U.S. annually causing injuries, deaths and millions of dollars in property damage.
It is extremely important that dryers are not left running when no one is home or you are sleeping. When a dryer vent becomes dirty and/or clogged, it can cause deadly carbon monoxide to enter the home and the dryer can overheat starting a fire. Lint is extremely flammable therefore, it is very important to keep the area around the dryer free of lint and any debris or flammable liquids.
*Always clean the lint trap before each load.
*Never leave a dryer running when you are away or sleeping.
*Periodically check the termination outlet for obstructions and proper airflow.
*When a dryer takes longer then one cycle to dry a normal load, 90% of the time it is because the vent is clogged or dirty. Don’t wait until the dryer overheats or stops working. Have the vent cleaned.
*Have your dryer exhaust vent system professionally cleaned and inspected annually!
