Job Title: Principal R(amp;)D Engineer
The Principal R(amp;)D Engineer will lead teams that are responsible for the design, the development, the evaluation and the transfer to manufacturing of neuromodulation systems for pain management and neurosurgery. The engineer will provide engineering, design and technical support to other functional areas of the Company as required. The engineer will develop a vision for how best to integrate the newly acquired technology into neuromodulation as well as other divisions across the Company.
The ability to work independently is critical. This individual will be responsible for assimilating new technologies into the neuromodulation R(amp;)D organization. They will also be responsible developing a vision for how this new technology might be integrated with other technologies that exist across the broader Boston Scientific.
: Expected to take a leadership role in all aspects of the design of neuromodulation systems.
: Lead projects associated with the development, testing and release of designs of system components.
: Responsible for the technical and design definition of product to meet product feature requirements.
: Provide engineering support to manufacturing on design issues related to assigned design responsibilities.
: Work with manufacturing counterparts to ensure manufacturability.
: Develop specification, test methodologies, and test equipment to evaluate design concepts.
: Complete documentation and reports for testing and regulatory submissions.
: Develop schedules, timelines and resource requirements for completion of assigned work.
: Give direction to scientists, engineers, technicians and drafters and clearly communicate their roles and tasks.
: Handle troubleshooting and problem resolutions related to assigned design responsibilities.
: Work closely with other departments within Boston Scientific to effectively complete projects on time.
: Develop and maintain expert working knowledge of products from a design and customer use point of view.
: Manage activities of external engineering and cross:functional groups and/or external vendors.
: Work across divisions to develop a vision for how new technology is strategically integrated with other platforms that exist across the broader Company.
: BS in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering with a mechanical emphasis.
: 5+ years in mechanical design, preferably in medical devices, RF ablation, and implantable products or related experience.
: Proven ability to work within product development process and to get things done.
: Understanding of the technical and regulatory requirements and processes associated with complex medical devices.
: Understanding of medical:grade materials, dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, finite element analysis, thermal and structural analysis.
: MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering with a mechanical emphasis.
: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
: Ability to work effectively with or lead in team environments.
: Presentation skills, technical writing skills, capability to function as both team leader and technical lead.
: Flexibility, influence management skills, project management skills and time management skills.
: Experience as a project engineer that is fully capable of producing tooling:ready 3D CAD files for injection molded plastic components.
