Position Summary
This position is within HARMAN's Professional Division, headquartered in Northridge, CA as the center of acoustic development with 60 engineers. Harman is looking to hire the most passionate, innovative and driven engineers on the planet to drive the next generation of professional products. The Successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success with product development experience and products in the market that show awareness, competence and understanding of high level concepts.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have any direct or indirect reports.
Job Responsibilities
This engineer will work in a collaborative environment to create new products for JBL Professional. The engineer will be responsible for driving product development activities daily while being supported by the project team. Additionally there will be assignments for department systems and processes that advance engineering efficiency, communications and data management. Further expectations will be to work with our other division peers on software tools and signal processing algorithms.
: Simulate and design passive and powered loudspeaker systems to meet performance and cost requirements
: Simulate and design loudspeaker devices and enclosures
: Simulate, design and document passive and active optimized crossover designs
: Use various DSP tools used for programming DSP functions
: Work with new products teams to define all project criteria for all products, accessories and software: use cases, specifications, definitions, cost targets, time lines and deliverables
: Work with engineering group to test all aspects of performance as required by JBL for design and function verification as well as reliability and durability
: Test and document all aspects of product and product component performance with failure modes
: Perform and document acoustical, mechanical, and electrical tests as needed.
: Work with engineering groups to implement corrective actions when needed
: Ensure all product design work is captured in document control system using industry best practices
: Support product launch activities with support on:site or at trade shows when needed.
: Drive creative and innovative solutions to customer problems
Basic Qualifications
: Bachelor's degree in physics or engineering with a strong curriculum emphasis in acoustics and acoustical engineering.
: Ability to work effectively within a fast paced, results oriented, matrix environment
: Ability to self:motivate make decisions and follow scientific methods
: A strong fundamental understanding of loudspeakers and transducers
: A strong fundamental understanding of the underlying theory and science relating to electro:acoustic modeling using both traditional matrix calculations and FEA simulations
Preferred Qualifications
: Master's Degree in Acoustics or related engineering with acoustics emphasis
: Experience in the development and tuning of loudspeakers and systems
: Experience in DSP algorithms and programming for audio or video
: Proficient in Matlab, COMSOL, ABEC, or related FEA simulation tools
: Proficient with Klippel, EASERA, SMAART, or similar FFT:based acoustic analysis tools
Eligibility Requirements
: Willingness to travel 10 of the time.
: Willingness to work in an office in Northridge, CA.
